How many of you guys have your own website ?

.Do you get much work from them

.How much did your site cost

.Do you put time , effort and money into getting your site up google listings ( how difficult is this )

Iv been looking into getting a web site done and just wanted to get a bit more info 1st from a trusted source ( you lot :Blushing ) , my brother has just had a site done at a cost of

There is a thread on here somewhere mate, with regard to how many has websites.

Have a look through our "Electrician Directory" and you will see all the ones with and without websites. :)

mines through a site called weebly, free website building template that you design yourself, and i bought the domain name, so that elimianated the .weebly.com address, makes it look much better, click on my link, as i would like to see what people actually think of my website, still adding to it as time goes on, comments please :D

Cheers for the advice guys , spoke with my brother and found out that his site initially cost

all the below is ment constructive!

"We are pleased to members of The Electrician Forum."

should read

"We are pleased to BE members of The Electrician Forum."

about us

"and slowly we are getting together a small customer database"

maybe..

"we have many satisfied customers that are happy to recommend us"

"I formed the company after working in the industry for many years previous, both in the security sector, and electrical sector. I left school at 16, trained through a college until 2002 then managed to find a job with a firm to a build experience up in the electrical trade. After working in electrical installations for 2 and 1/2 years i decided it was time to find my head for heights, and go into the CCTV industry, in a company in west midlands, This taught me alot of things install and servicing that i know to this day. After working there for yet another 2 years, i decided to move on and find another company who deals in both cctv installations and intruder alarms, The company took me on but at the time i wasnt made aware this was only a temporary position and thus by the christmas i was told that my job was no longer there. In the following january i applied and won a job with another security company in willenhall, and although i stayed there till the 16th november i didnt feel happy and decided to go it alone. Which brings me to the present day and where i am now. now i am my own boss and get to deal with customers ona daily basis and i would like to think i give a personal service as well as a value for money company who is slowly growing."

this is probably going to come across as you are a young guy that has limited experience, maybe a little to much detail. just put that you have worked in xyz sections of work.

"CJT Electrical has insurance upto 2 million pounds liabilty in the event of any unforseen

damage that occurs to property."

you are in safe hands with cjt electrical. we always go the extra mile to deliver a quality job at the right price. we also hold 2 million pounds public liability insurance for peace of mind.

your site as a whole looks very good, just a few tweeks and your there.

any out of focus photos i would drop, also there is one with a bit of equipment in a roof space that looks well ****ed. even if its not yours loose that photo.

you only get one chance to draw them in, so make sure there is no negatives. write up some more jobs with the persons name and town they live in to give a local feel.

you look like you specialise in cctv and security, if so push this. in the head banner, put some extra photos in the pages with only text

i hope some of this helps, ive had many people criticise bits of my website. dont take it as me slating.

good luck with you company

andy

:)

one of the main things people say about my site is the colour. lol think we both have bad taste. bit late for me ive got 1000 cards in that colour. tone it down a touch, can you add a background image? nearly not viable i mean insted of the orange. something relavent security cams ect

andy

Is that correct Canoe? , my brother is a real novice to all things computer related and just took the advice given , the web designer said if you have social blogs etc and update them frequently google will pick up on key words which will move you up google.

Canoe , do you have a Diy website, any chance of a link so I can take a look.

Many thanks

Ste

Badge , that's alot better , maybe you could put your company name in a contrasting colour ? Do you pick up any work from your site ?

Cheers

google used to be all about metatags(hidden words that you cant see but the search engines pick up) so you could write "electrician in leeds" and anyone typing this would then bring up your site in the listings.

but as time went on every site had the same sort of thing so it was no longer the best way for google to direct traffic to your site.

now they take into acount how often work is done to your site refreshing information, pictures probably dont count as a computer cant see what the content of the picture is.

being high in google is very hard. do some searching on the net for it, google google listings :) .

the content should cover all areas of the product/buisiness you have, and the more ways you can get it put across the better.

you can pay google via "google adds", this puts you at the top of the page when someone looks for "electrician in leeds" each time they click on your site you then pay a fee. you can alter the amount you spend . ive tried this but got to say i didnt seem to get any great increase in traffic.

Badger,

One spelling mistake in red at the bottom of the CCTV page "camera suddenly become none functional" none should be non. :tongue in cheek

Perhaps there may be a better way of wording it?

Much better IMHO as the contract on the old site was very low.

Only other comment is the loads of pics in a single column whilst great for the likes of us, I think just goes on a bit, can't you put them in a table 2 or 3 wide or something?

They just seem to go on too long?

Otherwise much better than I have!
