Cables pulled tight in CU coding

Doing an EICR in a property where the cables inside the CU are pulled tight to reach their terminals - looks like someone couldn't be bothered to lengthen them in any way when replacing the CU so configured the the new board so they'd reach. They do reach but are quite taught. Everywhere else...

Unusual (to me anyway) lighting cable

Yeah when i spotted it I thought "Ooh fire alarm cable"  As Noz said, neutral looped at the fittings and lives at the switches.  Show us a pic of the stuff you have in your garage? I cant see any advantage over normal twin and earth which was used everywhere else.

Unusual (to me anyway) lighting cable

During a board swap and test this week I came across some lighting cable I've not seen before. The house (in the midlands) was built around 30 years ago and all other circuits are wired in twin and earth. The two lighting circuits however were wired with two separate cables, the first having a...

How do I fit this pull light switch?

Considering your username, are you uncertain?  Ill get my coat. The reason for there being two live terminals is that this is a two way switch. Can be used as a one way switch as well though. when you pull the cord it toggles between connecting COM and L1, or COM and L2. As you only have...

    WOW.... just .... WOW

If you buy a 4 way you could charge both your car and the wifes at the same time though. And probably cook a couple of burgers atop the socket at the same time to boot

    Distance from Cookers etc

Ah, here it is. I hadn't dreamt it after all - From IET Electricians Guide to Building Regulations 2015 5.2.2 Location of accessories in kitchens General guidance can be provided as follows: (a) Wiring accessories (for example, socket-outlets, switches) should be permanently and securely...
