Light fault 'tripping' RCD on the ring circuits.

While having a few moments today I turned off each of the MCBs for the lighting/radial circuits. There are 3 MCBs for lights with 2 radial circuits on each. On one circuit there was a voltage of 7.2V between Live and Neutral/Earth with the MCB off, 6.2V on the next and 1.8V on the last. Should...

Light fault 'tripping' RCD on the ring circuits.

Yes I agree with that. I need to do a few tests, but getting the time is the difficulty at the moment.

Light fault 'tripping' RCD on the ring circuits.

The neutral ground bond is in the inverter itself. When replacing the 7 MCBs and 1 RCD with RCBOs I will move the neutral ground bond to the distribution panel.

Light fault 'tripping' RCD on the ring circuits.

I agree. When the days get longer and I get a chance I plan to replace the MCBs and RCD with RCBO's.

Light fault 'tripping' RCD on the ring circuits.

I have an earth rod hammered into the ground.

Light fault 'tripping' RCD on the ring circuits.

I have an offgrid set up with no mains connection at all. Recently, an interesting thing happened. The RCD on the distribution panel 'tripped' when it was wet and windy. After much trial and error I found the problem to be an outdoor light fitting that water was getting into. However, the RCD...

    Epever up5000-hm8042 and Floating Neutral

I didn't put the batteries into the diagrams. The only earthing that EPEVER recommend is the inverter itself, as far as I can remember.

    Epever up5000-hm8042 and Floating Neutral

Circuit 3 has no n-g bond but has a changeover switch for ac utility mains. "For the Circuit3, you can not connect like this, some customer connect like that, but the inverter will be damaged, that because of the switch between inverter output with Utility, because the switch has the swtich...

    Epever up5000-hm8042 and Floating Neutral

Circuit 2 is the same as Circuit 1 but with a neutral ground bond in the panel. "Actually, it is not recommend to grounding the netural line, If you still want to grounding the netural line, you can not connect Main Grid to the inverter and can grounding like this:" "You said you will not...

    Epever up5000-hm8042 and Floating Neutral

As I promised I will give a summary of what EPEVER had to say. They always replied promptly and were eager to help. I sent them a few circuits to consider and after some feedback I made some modifications. The circuit below is the one that they recommend for my particular set up, where I am...

I am in contact with EPEVER and will give a summary of what they have to say.

    Epever up5000-hm8042 and Floating Neutral

I recently contacted EPEVER support concerning their UP5000-HM8042 hybrid inverter with the following question: "The inverter will be used completely off grid with no mains power connection. Can you send me a circuit diagram to show how the system should be earthed please?" The reply was...

    Off grid inverter issue

Sorry Binky, only saw the post now. With the short days I haven't bothered trying to do anything with inverters, etc. Can you give me some idea of the type of RCBOs I should be looking at - 1 pole, 2 poles? (I guess Type B tripping curve as per MCB and type A as per RCD) Thanks.

    Off grid inverter issue

I had a quick look at it, thanks. I will go through it in more detail when I get the chance.

    Off grid inverter issue

Thanks for the clarification. However, does it still apply that it would be better to put a RCBO on each ring circuit rather than 1 RCD 'looking after' 6 or 7 MCB's controlled ring circuits? The radial circuits for the lights are only MCB protected - they should probably be RCD protected also...

    Off grid inverter issue

So, offgridAndy, do you consider your system as TT or other? I am struggling to get anything online about the earthing arrangement for a completely offgrid system with no mains electricity at all. I have an earth wire running from my fuse board down to the earth rod. I have an earth wire...

    Off grid inverter issue

Yes, MSJ, that is the case. But I am completely off grid and therefore that only occurs with the generator.

    Off grid inverter issue

I have read different things about whether its necessary to tie the battery negative to the common earth point. I have tied the genny to the same earth rod as the rest. Are you completely off grid with no connections at all to the grid? What type of earthing system have you used?
