    Victron options ?

This was my gut feeling initially but when I spoke to the guy today he thought the aadditional cost not really worth it, I am thinking more over a 25 year period it might be worth the extra. we also have a problem with the sky rats round here. I did have a quick look at that calculator a while...

    Victron options ?

Hi everyone. I have been looking into solar and battery and after many quotes and options I am leaning towards a Victron and Pylontech solution. We will have 3 arrays of 4 panels each on south, east, west elevations. Each array is 1740W. So of the two victron systems I have had quoted they are...

    Battery and inverter control software

Of course you are correct John. I have not used the right terminology there. Changed title to battery and inverter software. It`s just that the way it is often sold/structured is like the ac inverter and battery are a sort of unit together so I have been thinking of it as one thing. Its one...

    Battery and inverter control software

Hi everyone. I am still in a position of looking at what solar/ battery system to get as discussed in my other thread. https://electricianforum.co.uk/threads/hi-joining-for-some-advice.57235/ But I thought it might be worthwhile starting a thread about the best or worst battery or system...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

I have been playing around about with Easy PV, open solar and PVGIS. I got similar yearly generation figures from the first two at around 4200kwh with 420w panels, but the PVGIS was a a little more pessmistic / realistic at 3608kwh. Though I may have entered a perameter wrong in there somewhere...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

Initially I was not looking at specific brands or systems until I noticed all the quotes we had were so different, then I started to look into it all and found it to be a pretty complex market. So now I am trying to find the best quality and value. I will certainly look into the solar edge...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

This is crazy to me, two companies have suggested this exact method with tigos. I think they just see multiple arrays, don`t have a 3 input inverter and so just whack on some tigos. I wonder how many systems are installed like this all over the place. Update on the Alpha ess batteries I have...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

This is the diagram of what they were going to do with the tigos Do you think in this case I should be discounting this method and either going enphase or solar edge. Or is there another way to deal with the awkward 3 roof arrangement? Ollie

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

If I look at it this way then I think the 11kwh batteries are possibly about right. Our usage is less thn 9kwh per day based on the 3100kwh per year. However, in order to take advantage of the various Octopus schemes we would need to make sure it can force discharge at the very least. The...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

This is good to know, thats a few quid to be saved, I would ideally like it all done at once anyway. I was not sure about this, they were saying that the panel ratings are done in a controlled condition which is seldom replicated in real world situations in the Uk. I was thinking it was similar...

    Extending wires.

I am the opposite I have a bunch of wagos left but no crimps. They are the clear 221 type. I did not really want to open the consumer unit if not necessary, I had not thought about just using inline connectors inside the trunking which may indeed be simpler.

    Extending wires.

Might be worth a go, but I think when I put the temporary conduit in there it was too short for anything sensible at all, that's why I bodged it like that ! Just to get them out of the way. I think I will do one junction box near the ceiling and new wires into the consumer unit. Ollie

    Extending wires.

Thanks @ProDave. I had thought of doing it straight to the consumer unit as you suggest but was not sure I am legally allowed to hence my double junction box plan. Here is the offending area.

    Extending wires.

Hi I have an issue with wires coming from the consumer unit and going upstairs being too short to effectively put into trunking or anything. The consumer unit is under our stairs and the wires go into the ceiling/floor cavity at the top of the stairs. We had a new consumer unit put in and re...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

As this has been moved to the appropriate solar section I will put the outline of the quotes we are considering to see if anyone has any opinion on the systems. Our roof is 3 sections one south one east and one west. So we would probably get 4 panels on each, maybe only 3 on the end one. Our...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

Thanks, I am considering going with Enphase because we have the 3 separate roofs. It seems to be recommended that we have optimisers anyway so it can effectively be one string instead of 3 separate ones. So if we have enphase it will optimise as well and we won't need a string inverter, only a...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

This is quite similar to some of the quotes we have had. To my mind the point is to use the grid as little as possible. A few of the systems we have had quoted were a 5kw hybrid inverter but this rating is the input from solar and the output from battery was 3kw which as you say is not enough...

    Hi, Joining for some advice.

I am a woodworker doing furniture and joinery stuff. I have joined this forum as I am looking into having solar and a battery system installed in our house and it has been driving me slightly mental ! All quotes have been different in how they want to do it, what equipment to use etc. No two...
