I think there are some rules about Gas in tower blocks that relate to their construction.
especially those using a Large Panel System LPS (prefabricated panels), that cannot withstand a certain pressure that a Gas explosion could produce..

e.g.
https://fixmyblock.org/im-worried-my-block-is-large-panel-system/
https://fixmyblock.org/is-the-gas-s...allation,with a copy of the gas safety record.

from one of the above links:-
The government has instructed the removal of gas systems (for heating or cooking, etc) from all blocks that could not withstand an explosion of five pounds per sq inch (psi). However, at the time of writing, there are several blocks in England for which this has not been carried out.

So there could be some element of fact behind the assumptions that Gas & high-rise are NOT good partners!

. Modern insulation should mean electric would be relatively cheap to run, plus gas will run out in a few decades.
But gas would still be even cheaper.
The story about gas (and oil) running out has been going on for years and more keeps being found.

Yeah, but the easy stuff has been found already, so the less economic and more expensive stuff to extract is what we are increasingly left with, which will cost more and more.
