As far as SWA as a CPC goes, there is nothing wrong with it, however, the job has to be done right, regardless ow whether you use the armour as a CPC or not.

IF you use the armour as the CPC it must comply with the requirements.

IF you don't use the armour as the CPC, then it still has to comply with the requirements of being used as a CPC, so why add another?

Seen on occassion when the swa connected to non - metallic enclosure and armour not connected to MET , having that physical cpc core then at least gives some protection.

Im with Noz on this , better to have too much than not enough .

Hang on,,,, I'm definitely not advocating that a CPC core can be used instead of the armour, that will still need to be connected (at the supply end at least)
Sorry not saying you are , just saying that i have seen situations when then armour is not connected due to non - metallic enclosures and cpc has been used as sole protection , the point being that at least circuit downstream still has that connection even when armour not connected.

DO NOT AGREE with non-connection of armour , just saying that have seen situations when non-metallic enclosure used and banjo , gland and connection to MET omitted.

Just because you've seen installations by idiots that are incompetent is not really a reason to add a lot of un-necessary expense onto a job.

Economics come into this thing too mind.

A few months back we pulled in about 90m of 95mm sq 4 core for a sub main, can you imagine the additional cost for that if it had been 5 core, and we would still have had to ensure that the armour was suitable for use as a cpc anyway.
