First up what should have been an old MEM 60amp Kantark Excel fuse off of submain from meter to remote DB....all three were the same having copper conductor in the fuse carrier.

One of the above submain terminates in to this. The front cover isnt fixed down & hasnt been for so long that the wingnut screws are rusted solid. I've uncovered some of the fauna to see the unit, when I got the lid up the ivy was wound around inside.

The above isolation switch feeds through to this.

Yes that is a well rusted db. I couldnt get to do any testing at this db & it is soooooooooooooo rusty because directly below for many years this 5ft high pile has been added to daily

Horse manure.....when I opened the door the amonia smell was over powering.

Across the other building we have this delight....

And it's been worked on recently, new T/E for some lights....no gromit.

Lighting JB, probably was a nice job & covered when first done.

Gotta love the home made lights. No cpc continuity & MICC fails IR testing

Usual DIY suspects.....security light.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j293/gazjothomas/IMG00139-20120414-1203.jpg

30amp socket circuit (radial) has been extended using 1.5mm T/E, not a DIY'er this time..

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j293/gazjothomas/IMG00143-20120414-1222.jpg

The extended circuit connects to some swa............use a gland & box..why? Tape will do.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j293/gazjothomas/IMG00142-20120414-1219.jpg

The swa then supplies a set of automatic gates......nice work by a contractor.

The green house db, supplied by a submain from the horse manure room db. Nice swa glanding.

Down lights..........must have been trying to get as close as possible to the joists.

Then on the way home called to a property a few doors away from me........

"All the electrics one off, all I did was put the hoover in the cupboard under the stairs".

Found the neutral loose & arcing in the suppliers cutout, called SSE explained the situation & told them I'd tightend the terminal screws as there wasnt any seal on the fuse....

"ok no problem, we'll re-seal on the next meter reading visit"

Anyway while there I took these

This is the top of an enclosure housing a 30mA rcd on the meter tails, only installed 2 months ago by a sparks from Basingstoke who does the sparking for the builder that did the conservatory & kitchen work.(i'm due to do a cu change for this property after my visit today, so I shall see the standard of this guys work in the kitchen & conservatory)

This is the Henley block between the meter & 30mA rcd. The 2.5mm swa feeds straight out to a shed, where it terminates into 3x sockets 1x fcu & 4x lights, the only over current protection is the BS1361 100A service fuse.

That last one, the SWA straight from the henley block, I would have disconnected straight away and advised the customer what was needed in order to re connect it.

the other (presumably farm) job I take it you are quoting for a lot of remedial work?

From what I can see in the photo's its verging on downright dangerous, if it is a stables it will come under agriculture regulations as well, of which I see very little evidence that it does.

The stables (majority of the pictures) I have informed the customer that it needs isolating & sorting asap.

The swa into the Henleys has been disconnected & will be going on it's own 20A circuit when I change the cu next week. Forgot to say it's a TT supply .
