Hello everyone, hope you are all well.

Had a strange one today, would love some ideas.

ZS in the morning 0.50. Afternoon 3.56 ???????? bit stumped, checked all connections, all seemed fin ZS later 0.52.............

Same socket not the circuit I worked on, just one I used to take a reading.

Any ideas what this may have been.

Thanks for reading.

Were any other sockets on the same circuit also high? If a double socket, what did the other one read?

Did you do anything in the CU?

could be an external problem with the earth and intermittent fault, but more concerning is you tested Zs on a different circuit to which you are working on?

test any cct twice and you won't get exactly the same test result.

Causes of variance a stated above +

left and riight hand sides of a double socket will be different dut to varying levels of corrosion on contacts

if you pull your test plug in and out several times you will clean contacts, like wise switching sockets On and Off  a few times will clean contacts = different results

If its a switched socket I would guess the switch contacts are the prime suspect.

If you meter is capable of it can you not short the leads out and whack 1kV down them?

i find this tombe a great leveller

or short leads out and do continuity test on them whilst riving them about?
That's what I done when I thought my leads were going funny,

They stopped working afterwards, :|

Earth lead had went funny,
