Matt - the 'VO' in your email address you used to register with the site - would you mind telling us what it stands for?

Not voltage optimisation by any chance?

Yes Noz it only gets warm when it is charging!

well there is your problem. i suggest you dont connect it to anything to prevent it from getting warm, therefore save you money by not wasting all the electric

Actually Jono the average UK voltage is 242v, but in some areas include mine in the midlands we are closer to 252volts, trust me my iphone charger gets very warm on a night time

Just as a quick side note - at 252 Volts if you have a badly installed PV system with incorrectly sized cables and long runs - an SMA inverter with a G83/1 trip setting of 260 volts would suffer a lot from over voltage tripping at your place (due to voltage DROP) - This has noting to do with general PV increasing the grid voltage  :innocent but a lot to do (not in your case but most who have over voltage problems with PV) with badly designed and installed PV by the PV cowboys....

So it seems then that you are lacking in basic electrical theory knowledge

Power in = power out (+losses)

So .... If there is no load then there's no way that the psu will get warm....

No Noz, the point I was making was that the higher the voltage the hotter the charger gets

Canoeboy, I thought G83-2 settings were also at 260v trip settings??

I should have posted G83/2 values - silly me  :innocent

An SMA 3600TL21 for instance would be this
