2391 is considered the qualification to have if you are engaged in periodic testing.
Which in the crazy world of UK red tape you don't need to enrol in a competent person scheme for (if you are doing PIR's) ?:|

No qualified electrician should need to complete a 'Part P' course to prove that they are competent to carry out work that falls under 'Part P' of the building Regualtions electrical safety. Competency would have already been proven with their electrical qualifications.
are you saying they shouldn't need to prove competency but have to?

as the competency scheme is irrelevant to your qualification

As said competency should have already been proved by their qualifications for electrical safety as a qualified electrician.

Proving competency for a scheme provider is a different matter, however no Part P course would be required for electricians.

but warren qualification doesn't automatically make you competent wouldn't you say?

and hence our beef with no qualified doing work a qualified spark cannot without proving it

I think that experience also plays a very an important part but surely you would agree that after at least 3 years of electrical training you should be deemed competent enough to work safely on an electrical system, at least a domestic installation? Experience comes with time.

The big red book quotes:

Competent person. A person who possesses sufficient technical knowledge, relevant practical skills and experience for the nature of the electrical work undertaken and is able at all times to prevent danger and, where

appropriate, injury to him/herself and others.

Totally agree the beef with none qualified doing the work.

yes agree but the only way to prove your competence is via a scheme.
