RCD for electric radiator?

Hi,

I have bought a DeLonghi Fivy 1800w radiator, which has no earth wire. Do I need an RCD for this? (Thinking of putting an inline one on the lead).

If so, which type should I look for? I've read some work by detecting current on the earth lead, whilst some work by detecting an above-threshold current differential between the live and neutral leads - or do they all work both ways?

It's specified as double insulated so doesn't need an earth and can be safely used on a two core flex.

Modern RCD work on current differential. Very early ones detected earth circuit current, or more accurately rising voltage of the circuit earth.
