Some youngsters talk through their asses THB did they wear all the NICEIC clothing , baseball caps , tool kits etc by the way ? 'cos they're the really qualified
ones don't you know.
There is another side to this of course , I knew guys who were so well qualified they hardly ever worked as electricians after apprenticeships because basically they were OVER qualified . Most were useless at practical electrical work but moved on to design, consultants, project management etc
People like myself and a few others on here did a 6 year apprenticeship , I went "On the tools" just after England won the FIFA World Cup and then started learning , still am . Basic qualifications , no NVQ or AM2 . Learning to do breakdowns in drop stamping , press works , toolrooms , die sinking at 15yrs. But can the NVQ guys fix a saddle to a brick wall without using a masonary drill. ?
Two NVQ,ers in the wholesalers one day , discussing their problem of an earth wire on T/E lighting showing a voltage , lighting a neon , then fading out ...I suggested the earth wasn't connected all the way back to the board and it was an "induced" voltage picked up from the lives .
They turned , looked at me ...saw an old phart who obviously knows sod all , doesn't wear an NICEIC Polo shirt , glanced at each other and turned away .
The manager looked at me , just shook his head .
