Hi,

I wonder if someone could offer some advice please, I have just purchased an appliance from the USA but it comes with a USA power transformer and I need to purchase a UK transformer. It has a battery backup option but obviously it would be preferable to plug it in to the mains.

The power transformer with the appliance has the following info on it:

Class 2 Transformer

Input: 120VAC 60Hz 6W

Output: 12VDC 200mA

What would I need to purchase in order for it to work safely in the UK? The 60Hz bit worries me - is that an issue with the UK being 50Hz?

A second question out of curiosity - why would it state 12VDC output on the transformer yet the device can work from a 9V battery?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Ben

Thanks for getting back to me.

Will it be OK in terms of the frequency difference between the US and UK?

Cheers,

Ben

The transformer needs to output more voltage than requires because you need to convert it to nice clean DC and to do that you need to throw some volts away.

cheers, Paul
