Hi,

Stupid question.

When putting in a new dryline box in a stud wall, how do you know where the noggins are cos its a PITA when you hit a noggin and end up having to cut it away to get the box in. Prob not best idea but i admit ive done it before.

Cheers

Mark out on drawings or make notes of where cables/studs are before room is boarded. Or use a knocking driver /bradawl to make small hole that can easily be filled if its an already existing stud wall. The wall will get damaged anyway if its existing as you will probably find a few noggins that need to be got past to get the cable in.

Stab your pad saw through middle of marked box and have a poke around sid to side up and down. When/If you find anything, adjust box accordingly.

Hoping there are no cables running up the space  bad day explode

New builds mark the floor on the 1st fix.

For retrofitting mark the box out and then insert bradawl at various points in a diagonal fashion across the horizontal plane. Doesn;t matter where you start, if you check the outside edges first the stud will be bang in the middle and if you start in the middle there will be a stud across one end.
