Is An Isolator In A Shower/bath Area Acceptable

apologies for that ... no intention to mislead just wanted to get basic idea of what is good practice and not. The problem is that because the shower unit is only IPX4 then most accessories would nearly be compliant ... I want to ensure that I don't get in deep S**t when something goes wrong. ...

Is An Isolator In A Shower/bath Area Acceptable

Not sure of installation date but possibly between 13th and 14th edition for original fixed wire install ... the shower install most likely between 15th and 16th edition ... so ... RCD not required but still bad practice to put that isolator where it is. There are plenty of places they could...

Is An Isolator In A Shower/bath Area Acceptable

That is the other criteria I have been asked to resolve as part of the remedial work. To downrate the fuse (currently 45A) and install an RCD ... the whole DB should have been replaced as they are all BS3036 fuses without any RCD's And the cable entry is just filled with silicone. Not a very...

Is An Isolator In A Shower/bath Area Acceptable

The EAWR does apply to some degree as this is in a domestic flat above a public house and the landlord is a tenant - so probably more statute laws also apply. Will have to check the manufacturer of the switch details but they can be quite vague sometimes. I think it is just not suitable for...

Is An Isolator In A Shower/bath Area Acceptable

that is my same thoughts. I am also thinking it does not comply with Regulation 5 of EAWR (reasonably practical)

Is An Isolator In A Shower/bath Area Acceptable

Thanks Technician ... Doh! don't know why I didn't see that bit. ... But even though it excludes cords that are hanging inside zone 2 surely it fails on 701.512.2 because in this case the isolator is so close to the shower head (even though it may be above 2.25 m) I am basically trying to use...

Is An Isolator In A Shower/bath Area Acceptable

Thanks Adammid ... I am going back to site tomorrow to measure floor to ceiling height to double check zone. I know it's completely ridiculous but I am also looking at the EAWR regs to see if it complies, as these are the "real" ones to use for compliance. I have checked with Napit also and they...

    Dangerous Information From Diy Forum

I came across this while looking for some information about CU sizes ... I know I got distracted by idle chit chat ... It makes me angry to think that there are people out there that do not understand the dangers of Electricity and treat this profession with such disdain and contempt ...

The Two New Electrical Registers: "electricsafe" & "electrical Safety Register"

I agree and understand the points you made. I would prefer to not have any schemes or be a member of any scheme or to have them for free, but in the real world I guess I should be a member of one of them, if only to make notification easier and cheaper. I could be on both registers but that...

The Two New Electrical Registers: "electricsafe" & "electrical Safety Register"

I have posted my feeling (below) on other forums but thought I would share it here also ... excuse the repetition of some information but my last point is the more serious one ! All responses welcome. Here are the links ... This is the NAPIT one ... that everyone can join - FREE ElectricSafe...

    Simplified Earthing Arrangements

Thanks Steptoe, I agree with your method to check PME with a local earth rod. Although it may be a waste of a good piece of copper. After i posted my thought I realised that it wouldn't tell me much about the what is inside the cut-out anyway except to see that there is a link to the neutral...

    Simplified Earthing Arrangements

Have just been reading some old threads, so apologies if this has been answered elsewhere! This is a brilliant explanation and I am now enlightened to the 'correct' difference between TN-C-S and PME ... however, the BGB shows the two systems as 'one' on page 44 to quote "TN-C-S (PME) system"...

17th edition multi function test equipment advice

I found out today about the very same thing. I have a 1730 and it went back for repair (broken off switch - could not switch it off) which they repaired ok. But on using it again I found that they had upgraded the software so that you can select 'HI' or 'LO' on Loop test without having to swap...

Thanks for reply . You are absolutely correct, it IS in the manual . that will teach me to RTFM before using it (I did have quick read beforehand though) I must go to Specsavers !!! Regarding the test current, I did read up on the meter about one of the new features was that it would not trip...

Megger 1730 Tester and lead connections

true. tbh I wish I had stuck with the simpler one's. I knew how to operate those. These new ones are a bit more complex!
