    Hiding FCU's in cabinets

Pretty much ... you know you would normally see a row of FCUs on the tiles, i tend to put them at the back of cupboard above ... still accessible and local ... If you needed to isolate it in a hurry then having to move it aint good ..

    Hiding FCU's in cabinets

The last row of kitchen FCUs i did was behind a pan drawer ... pull the drawer out and you can reach in easy enough ... as long as the occupier knows how to isolate them then no problem ... i did read something about not using the MCB to isolate but i cant remember where i saw it ..

    CU change indoors for assessment

If there are no CPCs then you might have a job on your hands .. What are the cables like ? If they're old rubber cables you're knackered as you'll need to replace ..

    CU change indoors for assessment

The connection between the MET and sheath would normally be a metal strap or similar .. length is about right .. Take a Ze and if the result is above 0.8 then contact the DNO to upgrade .. it's their bit of kit after all .. If you're replacing the CU then 16mm MEC it is ... the main bonding is...

    Digital Spot Welder ..

Looking fine with the sums ... Calculated Zs is 0.11 and 80% of max Zs is 0.29 so hopefully all should be ok .. Any thoughts on RCD protection ? I'm reading there is quite some leakage from these ... the cable run is 2m ... dedicated circuit for fixed equipment ..

    Digital Spot Welder ..

Thanks for that ... found a 32A Contactum D type at TLC for a fiver so that's that one sorted ... cheers ..

    Digital Spot Welder ..

Chaps .. does anyone have any experience of setting up a circuit for one of these .. ? The manufacturers spec is a 25A supply but I'm reading that they cause significant inrush current so would a C breaker be better from the outset ?

    Kiln Install ..

Funny how things turn out ... after all this planning I caught sight of the spec for this kiln and the manufacturer requires only a 13A supply ... super duper efficient thing it is apparently .. So slight change of plan ... .. 25A design circuit .. 32A dist circuit to the shed now on 4mm ...

    Kiln Install ..

Chaps .. Have to been asked to install a kiln in a new outhouse .. and also a supply for a welder in the cellar/workshop .. chap is an artist .. House is TN-S 60/80 .. batteries had gone in my tester so I'm working on 0.8 for the sums .. The demand for the kiln is 39A .. will also fit 2 x...

    Any problem with this ?

Can i come off a FCU in a Y-shape to two sockets .. ? Making use of an existing but unused FCU off a ring in a basement ... need to supply two sockets at either end ... spur is in the middle of the room ... do I have to feed the sockets radial style or can I come off the FCU in each direction...

    DNO's isolator

Via the customer .. i let the job go i the end anyway so never got to the end of it, not enough time .... even so, following on from that message i called edf and surprisingly they knew nothing about that advice ... in any case i dont see why i should carry out work on their side ... who's going...

    DNO's isolator

I told a customer last week to get edf to upgrade their side prior to a rewire .. edf's answer came back as for me to fit an isolator, they would send me the seals and check at a later date ... anyone else heard of this ?
  14. D

    What is this ?

Yes, the DNO have it as TNCS ... spoke to the tech chaps at Elecsa too, they concurred with it all ... as long as the installation is sound which it is and the results are within the TNCS range then no problem ...
  15. D

    What is this ?

Definitive answer ... TNS converted to TNCS due to high Ze in the past ... no remedial work required ... attach new MEC to the existing block and treat as TNCS for Ze ..

    What is this ?

Well interestingly enough the customer rang me tonight to accept my quote and after I told her to get in touch with her supplier to get their side sorted out she got back to me with the answer that they want me to do the work and will send me the seals ... i'm to ring them tomorrow ... and shall...

    Can I do this ?

Thats what I thought after posting this ... i guess all i was doing was displaying my ineptitude at making a decision and seeing the wood from the trees after a particularly busy day but i spose thats the beauty of this forum .. stupid ideas are politely dismissed :-D

    Can I do this ?

No you're right .. it's a stupid idea and suitably binned ... i'll have a better look for the circuit under the ceiling boards ...

    Can I do this ?

Can one light switch be used to operate two separate lights from different circuits ? Like this ... I'm not sure why this is confusing me, just having a blonde moment I guess .. Trying to work out how to add to existing in a customers cellar .. very limited access to existing wiring but...
