    Setting Up Sky Eye

Needs to be a direct cable right from the sky box to the magic eye (unless you use a distribution amp like the post above mentions) If you pass the coax through wall plates or them Y combiners the magic eye dosn't work.

    17th Edition Exam Layout

When I did mine they were pretty random all over the place and I deffo got some different questions to the other candidates, I know this as ROYS was in the same exam and when we were comparing answers after there was 3 or 4 questions where one of us was saying na didn't get that question.

It's only a bit of snow - grow up!

I live at the top of a hill which can be quite a challenge to get up when the snow comes. A taxi picked me up last week and when he went to move off he says must put my traction control on for this bit and promptly presses the button turning it off. Takes of with wheels spinning wildly and...

    different ways of wiring lights

I always thought it was mainly to stop DIYers killing themselves. DIYer decides to change pendant for something fancy, dosn't bother to get a sparky. Turns light off at switch as it must be dead now, opens ceiling rose and plates themselves, disconnecting the permanent feed.

    Fused test Leads

I am in need of a set of Fused Test leads, however not the type where the fuse is in the probe at the end. I need a set off leads that have a 4mm plug at both ends and a fuse inline as well. My internet trawl has failed to produce a single candidate. Anyone seen such a beast or am I going to...

sky downstairs - required upstairs (how to)

The "old hat" SLX has a big ugly IR receiver, the link I posted has a receiver which is tiny something like 10mm x 5mm base and about 4mm tall, you simply don't notice it once its installed. Everything else is the same, though some makes use the F-connector rather than a normal coax connector.

sky downstairs - required upstairs (how to)

The SLX is old hat now, they are big and ugly. Use a mini magic eye, something like this. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Triax-Compact-Sky-Magic-Eye-Link-Small-UK-Seller-/190307522114?pt=UK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL Hardly see them once installed. Also if you want sky on more than 1 TV upstairs...

Correct installation method for a shower cable. Pay attention!

I hate that word should , it gives cowboys an excuse for poor practice.

    Personalised Number Plates

I voted for I have 1, it's not a personalised plate as the initials on it mean nothing to me, I just liked the combination. However what it is is what I consider to be a proper plate its very old and non age related (Three letters 3 consequitive numbers). I picked it up 20+ years ago for...

    How to repair 11kV Tracking

It's Russian workmanship at it's finest in an ex russian state. I have loads more pics like that, found the same type of crap in 15 different locations. Caused mayhem when I shut them all down. Here is their main earth rod, wonder what the Zs is here. Oh and the 2nd pic I assume the same guy...

    How to repair 11kV Tracking

What you don't see in the photo is that on the other side the orange discolouration is real bad allowing the voltage to track across the insulator to the panel metalwork. The fuse then blew, look real close at the fuse and you can see a thin wire bypassing the fuse alltogether.

    Hello to our New Members...

Hi, I'm Brian time served industrial spark of 21 years experience. I joined because ROYS told me to after babbling on about a conduit bender and blow up doll. Neither of us work in the real world, in fact many have said we don't work. Don't use tools at work any more, only for fun back home.

    WiFi PC and Wii

Thanks Steve, Same to you, last minute change of exam venue due to loss of comms was a close run thing though. Don't fancy your mobile phone bill after lending your phone to the IT guy for 40 min though.
