Cable Cores

Some manufacturers do cable identification in two ways:

1. 2 X 2,5

2. 2 G 2,5

I know 2 X 2,5 means 2 core 2,5 mm2.

What does 2 G 2,5 mean?

its to do with harmonisation code. g is ground (earth). i.e 2g2.5 is 2core & earth 2.5mm flex

i.e H07RNF is harmonised code for rubber flex...

Does it mean Two cores of 2,5mm2 plus One core of Earth (Total Three Cores)

Or does it mean One Core of 2,5mm2 plus One core of Earth (Total Two Cores)

Doesn't mention about the G but shows what cable markings stand for, and what you should be looking out for on your cable if you have any doubts.

The G stands for 'gang' AFAIK.

So on the length of H07RN-F I was connecting an oven up with today it said 3G4, which means 3 cores of 4mm csa each.

Earth is Erde in German.

However, if does have other terms which I can't recall!

Gang is gang as in 2 gang switch or socket.

Which in this case is gang = "live core"
