dimmer switch

I been asked to look at mates pub as he having fault with his lights, he had a dimmer switch fitted 2 months ago and now the lights have failed again, when looked worked out dimmer switch was at fault so was gonna just replace it for him then i noticed that this dimmer switch controls 8-10 lights sure that cant be right . it a domestic dimmer switch and he told me that he blows every 6-8 wks, surely the sparky that fitted them would notice this, or was he just ripping them off as was charging over

whats the wattage the dimmer is switching? are the lamps designed to be controlled by a dimmer?

If 250watt dimmer max bulb size 25watt each!

If 400watt max bulb 40watt

gut feeling... probable overload dimmer:|

i bet the dimmers are on a grid and packed together like Ethiopians in a mini!

the lights are all spotlights 2 are strip with 4 x40 watt others are mix between single and double spots all with 40 watt, said they could put it on to two separate dimmers was gonna run supply from new lights to new dimmer and use power from old dimmer and lights but was told cant do that any ideas?
