Thanks for reply’s, here goes I’m going to get 3 recessed down lights, each pointing down the brick coloums at the front, and going to get a dusk till dawn sensor. I’d like to have a switch but not sure if there would be enough room to replace 2way switch with 3way switch, would it be a tight fit? If that’s the case and it’s to tight I’m just going to run a cable from existing switch. I will post a couple of photos of wiring etc once done

Would replacing a 2gang to 3gang be to tight?

Depends on the quality of the initial install. Can be done otherwise there’d be none fitted. 

As @Richard-the-ninth pointed out how have you confirmed a neutral at existing switch?

If the existing switch is a single gang wall switch, just convert it to a double gang wall switch. take a 3core &E from the switch position to the sensor, then a T&E on from the sensor to the light fitting.

All neutrals connected through.

All earths connected through.

Permanent live supply from switch connected to perm live input at sensor.

Switched live from switch connected to switched output of sensor, then also onward to the live input at light.

So if switch OFF and sensor not operated light will be OFF.

and if switch OFF and sensor operated light will be ON.

and if switch ON and sensor not operated light will be ON.

and if switch ON  and sensor operated light will be ON.

I’d quite like a separate single gang switch only to work the outside lights and not be mixed up in a 3gang with toilet and hall light.

Could I take a 3core&E 1.5mm from existing 2gang

Put it into 1gang switch inside at door 

Run 3core&E 1.0mm from 1gang to sensor

Then run T&E 1.0mm to new lights

would that work?

You would only need a T&E from switch to new switch, you are only transferring the perm live, neutral and earth across. From there you’ll want your 3c+e to sensor then twin to light.

Thanks mate, is an override switch just the same as a 1gang 1way switch? And are all the blacks in the term block on my pic the neutrals? And would any of those cable runs be 1.5mm or all just 1.0mm Thanks for the reply

Switch yes, I am making the assumption that the blacks are neutrals, without confirmed testing then I can’t be 100%,  and 1.0mm would be fine throughout.

I take a twin @ E from existing switch to new 1way1gang linking the L N E across

Then I carry across 3core&E from 1gang to the sensor,

At the 1gang going to sensor 3core & E
