    Prospective earth fault current

I think so. PFC is: Highest of either phase to neutral or phase to earth (short circuit). If 3 phase then Phase to neutral x 2. Cheers Mark

    Energy saving light lamps

Hi, Interesting item on energy saving lamps on Radio 4 (more or less http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/homepage/int/pr/eco_lightbulbs_more_less_11dec09/h1/-/news/1/hi/magazine/8406923.stm). General points: To find energy efficient equivalent worst case divide GLS wattage by 3 eg. 60W = 20W Efficiency...

Hi, Customer wants 2 downlights in hall area (low ceiling) - anyone used the low energy 11w downlights, I am thinking about giving them a try. On a related matter ... sort of ... is anyone fitting Solar PV panels, if so what brand do you use? A customer asked me about this and I am looking...

Hi, What testing do people do on ring circuits for a PIR? All three continuity tests (end to end, L-N figure of 8, L-CPC figure of eight)? Zs measured or Zs calculated from R1+R2? Thanks Mark

    Cable calcs.

Here's what I was told on me level 3 : 1) Identify design current (Ib) by applying diversity to final circuit (s) 2) Select protective device (In) 3) Apply correction factors for ambient temp/grouping/insulation/cable operating temp/protective device 4) Use Regs/on-site to find suitable...

Removing emergency light fiitings in domestic premises

Hi, I have been asked to remove all the emergency lighting in a house that was formerly a council property. Some of the fittings are very difficult to access from above (stair carpet etc) and they are not looped out of the adjacent 3 plate; so bit of a pig to trace where they are looped from...

Check control panel, internet options, connections, LAN options - clear The ipconfig /all command will detail your network interfaces. I would guess that your browser is not able to resolve url's to IP addresses because of a wrong gateway address - but that's a guess :P There is a command...

IR on lighting circuit very low

Okay - it's a remove all lamps job, then the dimmers. In terms of a general PIR ... this would be a code 3 .... still would not feel too good putting that; but the amount of work required to get to the bottom of these readings is big. BTW - this house has about 130 s/o's over 4 floors...

IR on lighting circuit very low

Hi, I tried the low resistance setting on my megger and got nothing, which is what i would expect else = BANG :P I am reading 0.01 Meg ohms, a bad reading on a circuit where I expect >200Mohms. I am surprised at the reading and instinctively think there is a load causing the low...

IR on lighting circuit very low

Hi, Thanks for the reply. The circuit is not on a RCD. I was rather hoping I would not have to start breaking into the circuit ... hohum. I guess a good start would be to test from the load side of all switches to see if there is a fault on the load side of the cct - then work back. Having...

IR on lighting circuit very low

Hi, I am getting a very low reading on a lighting IR test (close to zero!). The circuit is an existing domestic lighting installation that needs testing. Due to the high number of dimmers I am using the L&N to CPC test to avoid damaging any sensitive equipment. The lighting circuit...
