Can somebody tell me, at what current do you have to isolate the Neutral as well as the line conductor ie. above 16 A both conductors need isolating also what regulation number is it thanks CJS

Can we ask the reason, behind your question?

The Boys.

(Don's back soon)

Hi seajayess. :)

As the Don says..

Not really sure of your reason for asking this question.. ?:|

However we can start by bangin a few useful reference start points...

{these regs are SL paraphrase version! :) ;) }

General isolation & switching

537.1.4

The main isolating switch, able to isolate a whole installation under load, for operation by ordinary persons, Must disconnect both Phase & Neutral.

537.2.1.1

every circuit shall be capable of been isolated from each of the live supply conductors.... In a TN-S or TN-C-S it is NOT necessary to isolate the neutral if reliably connected to earth by a low impedance.

537.2.2.5

means of isolation preferably multi-pole device.. however suitably located single pole device are not excluded.

530.3.2

Single pole devices MUST NOT isolate the neutral alone!

531.2.1

RCD's will disconnect all line conductors at the same time!

At the moment I can't think of a specific reg relating to isolating both poles & current rating? ?:|

I think some manufactures instructions may request a double pole switch!

Additional when isolation is required, I will often fit a double pole device as it provides easier disconnection of a dodgy bit of wiring which may cause an RCD to trip.

Thanks for your input, there Special Location. The Godfather
Cheers' hope the boys are having a good weekend? ?:| :D :x

Despite the rather random state of the weather..

Tis raining...

now tis dry..

oh its sunny...

no now its chucking it down again..

oh hang on.. dry & bright again..!

and that was just the past hour!!! :( :_|

wish it would make its flipping mind up...?:| X(

Indeed Specs. (Regarding the weather mate).

top man good to hear that good sir ]:) :^O :^O

Real Radio is the only way to go. Various RR stations throughout UK. Real Radion Cardiff, apparently is better, because they have a lot of English listeners who say it is.

And besides - When you are in a cave - I don't suppose there is a good reception - no matter which station you listen to?

:^O

Was just a question brought up with another sparky Saturday, he was sure that when the current went over a certain limit the reg stipulate that the Neutral is isolated too. Perhaps he was wrong so I thought I would ask the question CJS

Thanks for that.

Don

i CANT THINK OF A SPECIFIC LIMIT TO DISCONNECT THE n.

sorry I got me caps all ass about. :(
