So WHY is it made with G/Y, Blue and Black if there is nowhere you can use it?  Just where CAN you use it with those colours?

NYM-J does not comply with any British Standard. (It is a VDE cable.) It's not suitable for BS7671 installations.

That said any of the NYM-J I have used has been brown/blue/green & yellow in 3-core.

However, the colours you have mentioned (if indeed it is produced with those) could be used on a single phase final circuit in the south of Ireland (to ET101 Wiring Rules) fed from a three-phase DB if the circuit is on phase L2.

You are correct Risteard, it is a German VDE cable and is therefore not compliant to BS7671, however so is sy etc yet it is still widely used over here, which realistically makes a mockery of the BS7671 regulations?

Deviations.

Also, as it is to DIN standards, then it is difficult to argue that it can't be used.

DIN standards have a common iEC ancestry to BS & EN standards.

However, try using BS only cable there and they will simply not allow it.

Which "technically" they should.
